Water cutting can be used to all materials. Clean and accurate cutting surface minimizes the need for machining. In addition, water cutting is environmentally friendly because no carbon dioxide or other gases are released into the air.

Water cutting is mechanical and abrasive. Abrasive cutting is based on eroding the material with water and abrasive grains. The high-pressure intensifier pump generates pressurized water that turns into a water jet when flowing through the extremely small diamond nozzle in the cutting head. Adding abrasive makes the water jet and cutting force a thousand times stronger. This enables cutting thicker and stronger steel plates. Water and abrasive leave the cutting head at multiple speed of sound.

We supply plasma cut parts cost-efficiently. One of the main advantages of plasma cutting is the high cutting speed. To minimize the thermal effects all of our cutting tables have adjustable water levels. This is especially important when cutting wear resistant steels. In addition, our combined machine cuts quickly with plasma and accurately with water.

Plasma cutting is suitable for all steel plate qualities. Technology uses accelerated jet of hot plasma. This plasma torch can cut all electrically conductive materials. Plasma cutting is suitable especially for stainless and fire-resistant steels. It is more commonly used also for cutting alloyed and low-alloyed steel qualities. Depending on the machine even up to 100 mm thick steel plates can be plasma cut. The technology also enables bevels and markings.

Plasma cutting is based on melting the material with an electrical plasma gas arc. Most commonly used gases are argon, varigon, nitrogen, oxygen and their mixtures. The high velocity gas flow blows the hot molten metal away.

The plasma kerf is always conical. E.g. the bottom of a hole is 1-3 mm smaller than the top, but the outside dimensions of the part are 1-3 mm larger at the bottom than on the top. Sufficient machining allowances need to be to be taken into the consideration when cutting over 60 mm thick steel plates. A bit of the conicity can be fixed with the rotating cutting head but however the kerf will not be straight.

Flame cutting is the fastest and the most efficient cutting technology for the thick steel plates. Cost-efficiency can be achieved in large quantities with multi-torch drive. In addition, the flame cut kerf is straight. The part dimensions are the same on the top and at the bottom of the plate. Our flame cut parts can be used in steel structures requiring CE-marking.

Most of the steel plate qualities – like structural, wear-resistant and pressure vessel steels – are suitable for flame cutting. Unalloyed and low-alloyed steels with carbon content less than 0,3 % can be flame cut without any special arrangements. Stainless steels cannot be flame cut.

Flame cutting is the most common thermal cutting technology. In the cutting the starting point is heated by the gas to the ignition temperature. The cutting oxygen is added and the high-pressure jet burns the metal and blows the molten material away from the kerf. Flame cutting is rather simple and low-budget technology for over 5 mm thick steel plates.

There are some requirements for the material to be flame cut:

• heated metal burns in clean oxygen
• the ignition temperature of the metal is lower than the melting temperature
• burning reaction creates enough oxygen
• the thermal conductivity of the metal is low enough

The greatest advantage of the flame cutting compared to mechanical or other thermal cutting technologies is the capability to cut very thick steel plates. This is made possible by the process itself because the cutting energy comes as a result of oxidation of the metal which is an exothermic reaction.

Weather resistant steels are high strength, low carbon structural steels including small amounts of alloying elements such as copper, chromium, nickel and phosphorus. As a result of these alloying elements and effects of oxygen and humidity, a protective oxide layer is formed on the surface of the steel. The oxide layer prevents the steel from corroding beneath the surface. The thick oxide layer regenerates itself in case of surface damage. The patinated brown-orange appearance of weather resistant steel is formed when the steel is exposed to various weather conditions like humidity and drought. It takes approximately 18-36 months until the protective layer is formed under normal weather conditions. Weather resistant steels are cold formable and great to weld.

Weather resistant steel is commonly known as CORTEN (CORrosion resistance – TENsile strength).

Corten A: steel includes more phosphorus and is most commonly used in architectural structures
Corten B: more suitable for applications requiring high strength due to better impact test results at low temperatures

The products made of weather resistant steel have a long lifespan in even the most challenging weather conditions. Especially architects have found multiple ways to use weather resistant steel when – alongside the structures and costs – the aesthetics of the buildings need to be taken into consideration. The utilization of weather resistant steel reduces the need and thus the costs related to surface treatment. Also thet environmental load is reduced due to its long lifespan.
